(event policies) Hemingway and Steinbeck might not have belonged to critique groups, but today’s agents and editors agree that writers who belong to critique groups generally present more polished manuscripts. It shows a writer is serious about his or her work, willing to go that fabled extra mile. What the agents and editors like, we want to give them. In spades. On a personal level, what can a critique group do for you? How do you find this nirvana of suggestion and support? How do you choose the right critique group for you? What characteristics should you cherish, and which should make you run screaming from the room? |

(event policies) We writers in the 2lst century have unprecedented creative and professional opportunities available to us, thanks not only to television and films, but also to one of the most significant breakthroughs in the entire history of storytelling -- the development of interactive digital media. This talk (with plenty of time for questions) will delve into these new opportunities and what they offer to fiction writers, particularly focusing on the fascinating variety of stories we can now tell, thanks to interactive media. Fortunately, writing these new kinds of stories doesn’t mean reinventing the wheel -- they have roots in forms we are already familiar with, like novels, the theatre, and movies. And here’s some additional good news: being a computer geek is not a prerequisite! |
